Business & Technical Writing Skills

Introduction & Background

Master the skills of writing with clarity, precision, and accuracy to persuade, inform and build important business relationships. You will learn to quickly analyze any communication piece or situation. The technical writing aspect involves the presentation of scientific and/or field-specific data through both words and graphics for fellow specialists and non-specialist readers. Learn how to write a particular subject that requires direction, instruction, or explanation.

This course will help participants write properly organized technical reports and business-writing documents and will aid in streamlining in-house communications while reducing the need for re-writing, repetition, and clarification. The course will help participants improve their ability to write clearly and grammatically, to produce documents appropriate to their intended audience, and to know how to present top-quality and effective documents.

Prior to the course, participants will submit an existing sample or a portion of a business document (1-1.5 pages in length) or technical document (5 - 10 pages in length) and a list of three expectations of the workshop. The facilitator, Dr. Jesse Stothers, will confidentially review these samples and provide feedback to participants in the workshop.
