Fundamentals of Project Management

Introduction and Background

Jump start your projects. Map out your project's course and your destiny. 

As the program title indicates, participants will learn the fundamentals of project management. Participants will be able to use these concepts the very next day on their projects, giving an edge over competition.

The Fundamentals of Project Management is a hands-on, workshop-based, interactive program. It includes small group exercises, large group discussions, and instructor facilitation. Participants will be able to practice what they learn on a case study project.

This program utilizes many of the templates found in IPDI Project Management Template Library. After completion, participants will have free access to the Templates to use on their own projects.

The Fundamentals of Project Management program has been successfully taught for over 20 years to thousands of individuals in hundreds of companies from a wide range of industries. Key Learning Objectives

  • Understand the two main approaches to projects: Predictive and Agile as well as the Hybrid approach
  • Develop a Scope Statement for the project to depict what is in scope and what is not
  • Create a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) / Sprint backlog to establish effective resource and duration estimates
  • Develop duration estimates using various techniques
  • Understand the application of Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling
  • Understand the usage of a Task Board / Kanban on certain types of projects
  • Establish effective adjustments, including risk responses, to the preliminary schedule
  • Accurately update the schedule based on work performance
  • Evaluate the schedule and budget variances and how to resolve them

 

Refund Policy

Cancellation Policy: University of Saskatchewan's liability is limited to reimbursement of paid tuition fees. Cancellations received at least ten (10) business days in advance of the course commencement date will receive a full refund. Cancellations received less than ten (10) business days prior to the course commencement date will be subject to a $200 administration fee. Cancellations received less than three (3) business days prior to the course commencement date will be subject to full course tuition cost. Non-attendance will incur full course tuition cost. Fees subject to change without notice. Program Transfers: One course transfer will be permitted without penalty if the cancellation request is received more than ten (10) business days prior to the course start date. Program transfers within ten (10) business days of the course start date will be subject to a $200 administration fee. Alternate program transfers may be approved dependent on course availability. Transfer requests must be scheduled within six (6) months of the initial purchase. Applicants will be responsible for any price difference in program fees at the time of the request. Each subsequent transfer request will be subject to $200 administration fee.
