Our season is short and our winters are cold, but there are advantages to growing fruit in northern gardens. They are sweeter and contain more antioxidants! And never has the selection been as great. Part I begins with the basic considerations such as hardiness, pollination, soil, water and pruning. Next, the fruit themselves, from the top down: apples, pears, and plums followed by saskatoon berries and haskaps. Part II covers the new sour cherries, raspberries, strawberries, currants, gooseberries and hazelnuts. And, time permitting, sea buckthorn.
