Conversational Japanese

Japanese for the Traveler

This beginner Japanese program is ideal for those who have little or no previous Japanese speaking experience or exposure.

Students will master and learn to:

  • Use the basic expressions: Hai, Iie, Wakarimashita, Wakarimasen, Sumimasen, So desu, Chigaimasu, Ii desu, Arigato
  • Respond to instructions to do something
  • Ask someone to do something  
  • Indicate one’s name, nationality & profession                 
  • Respond to inquiry on one’s purpose of travel              
  • Respond to inquiry on one’s travel destination             
  • Respond to inquiry on travel partner(s)       
  • Ask for the destination
  • Indicate & ask for a present or absent thing
  • Indicate & ask about a choice   
  • Indicate & ask about the location of something            
  • Ask how one can do something
  • Inquire about possible travel to a destination                         
  • Buy & indicate quantity of tickets

The registration fee includes the pdf of the manual.

Evaluation

Non-Credit course
Progress report provided at the completion of the class.

Format

Fall, Winter & Spring terms:  1 class per week for 10 weeks, 2 hours a class.

Requisites

All participants must be at least 16 years old when classes start.

Refund Policy

NO REFUNDS once the course has started. Withdrawing from the course prior to the first class, will result in a refund less an administrative fee of $75 + GST. The Arts & Sciences Languages Non-Credit Programming Unit reserves the right to cancel courses when there is insufficient enrollment, in these cases a full refund will be issued. No transfers will be allowed from one term to another term. If a class is cancelled during the term, these hours will be rescheduled and made up. However, if a student misses a class, no rescheduling or make up classes occur.
