Leadership Essentials for Supervisors

Introduction & Background

This course is designed for front-line to mid-managers who are moving from peer to supervisor and for those who would benefit from refreshing their leadership skills. This course focuses on leadership skills in communication, coaching, performance management, and leading through constant change.

Course Structure

All participant materials will be sent prior to the course start date. Program learning includes an online virtual classroom through Zoom. Participants are required to have access to a computer/laptop with sound capabilities (speakers and microphone) and a built-in camera or webcam. Participants should also have access to a quiet and private space for learning.

  • Assess your leadership skills and how those affect managing others.
  • Establish credibility with more senior/experienced employees.
  • Align supervisory accountability to overall organization business strategy and people management expectations.
  • Use coaching as a means to engage staff, inspire innovation, and create a team culture of trust.
  • Communicate to meet the needs of different types of employees.
  • Explore new ways of thinking to facilitate change and conflict.

Refund Policy

University of Saskatchewan's liability is limited to reimbursement of paid tuition fees. Cancellations received at least five (5) business days in advance of the course commencement date will receive a full refund. Cancellations received less than five (5) business days prior to the course commencement date will be subject to a $100 administration fee. Cancellations received less than two (2) business days prior to the course commencement date will be subject to full course tuition cost. Non-attendance will incur full course tuition cost. Fees subject to change without notice. Program Transfer Policy: One course transfer will be permitted without penalty if the cancellation request is received more than fifteen (15) business days prior to the course start date. Program transfers within fifteen (15) business days of the course start date will be subject to a $300 administration fee. Alternate program transfers may be approved dependent on course availability. Transfer requests must be scheduled within six (6) months of the initial purchase. Applicants will be responsible for any price difference in program fees at the time of the request. Each subsequent transfer request will be subject to $300 administration fee.
