In the past few years, the fabulous milkweeds (Asclepias) have started to get a lot more attention as they re the host plants for monarch butterflies. While it's wonderful that people are beginning to design gardens with the monarchs in mind, the milkweeds are not just practical but also beautiful. Some spread and some don't. Some are short and some are tall. Some are better for moist areas and some for dryer regions. Almost all of them provide excellent nectar and pollen sources. Many are excellent cutflowers and have interesting seedpods. This class will introduce you to some of the best known and hardiest species, as well as ways you might like to use them in your garden.
