OEC: Introduction to Lean and Six Sigma

Program Overview

A key area of operational excellence is lean and six sigma. Lean and Six Sigma is a method that provides organizations tools to improve the capacity of their business processes. By increasing performance and decreasing process variations, organizations can see defect reduction and improvements in areas such profits, employee morale, and quality of products or services.

In this program, participants are introduced and will examine process improvement tools, terminology, principles, and analytical techniques that business professionals use to investigate key issues within the operations function. Understanding how the sources of waste produce operational inefficiencies and the root causes of wastes is the first step in operational excellence. Participants will gain a real-world experience on understanding issues and waste which typically happen in an office setting.

This program will go even further to discuss a variety of tools and techniques used to reduce or eliminate sources of waste resulting in maximizing operations. Participants will learn how to apply the tools, methods, and techniques to the office processes where they can see the immediate benefit.

Efficiencies in metrics are a key tool discussed as a way to monitor throughput, quality, and productivity before and after implementation. Participants will learn about the power behind these metrics to implement current and future operational improvements.

Lastly, participants will be able to take their learnings and apply them immediately to their own work processes.

This program is part of the Operational Excellence Certificate.
