Students will explore the principles and visual elements of sculpture through the elements of the face. Working in plasticine or clay, learn how to measure and replicate the ear, mouth/nose, and eye, learn the process of building the larger shapes first and then the details, and the ways in which these can be altered and exaggerated to capture expressions. Then use these acquired skills to make a mask. This will help to understand the anatomy of the face, and the proportions and relationships between the face elements. Following this class, students will have the opportunity to register for a weekend workshop to learn how to use their plasticine or clay sculptures to create a silicone or plaster mold.
